Islamabad: 1 killed, 300 injured in anti-govt protests
Islamabad, Aug 31 (IBNS): At least one activist was killed and 300 others were injured in clashes between police and protesters in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, which continued till the wee hours of Sunday, reports said.
Violence erupted on Saturday as protesters led by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri marched towards the Prime Minister house in Islamabad.
"Some 25,000 people marched on the prime minister's house late Saturday after talks with the government mediated by the army failed to end the political impasse," DawnNews reported.
The security forces reportedly used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Fresh contingents of police were brought in in the Red Zone on Sunday to counter the protesters, DawnNews reported.
Demanding Sharif's resignation, thousands of protesters led by Qadri and Khan have camped outside the parliament building in Islamabad for the past few days.
