Ahvaz, Iran, Sept 22 (IBNS): At least 29 people were killed as gunmen opened fire on an Iranian military parade in the south-western city of Ahvaz in Iran on Saturday, media reports said.

The attack left 50 others injured.

The death toll might rise, officials said.

"The attack has reportedly been carried out from outside of the parade perimeters, from a park overlooking the observation platform," reported MEHR news agency.

As per the news agency, governor-general of Khuzestan and governor of Ahvaz, who were present at the venue during the incident, remained unharmed in the attack.

According to the senior spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi, the attack was carried out by four terrorists, three of whom were killed and the other arrested by security forces and the police, reported the Iranian news agency.

The ‘Al-Ahwaz’ separatist group has claimed responsibility for the incident.
