Bangladesh on Friday began receiving an additional 5,000 tonnes of diesel from India through a cross-border pipeline, according to media reports.

“Another 5,000 tonnes of diesel has started arriving at the Parbatipur Padma Oil depot from India via the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline,” depot manager Md Ahsan Habib Chowdhury told Dhaka Tribune.

He said the Parbatipur Rail Head depot has been receiving the supply since the morning of April 16.

According to official data, around 8,000 tonnes of diesel reached the Parbatipur depot from Numaligarh, India, on April 14, following 22,000 tonnes delivered in March, the report said.

In total, about 30,000 tonnes of diesel were supplied to the depot from Numaligarh between March and April 14, sources told the newspaper.

Depot authorities added that a further 7,000 tonnes of diesel from Numaligarh Refinery Limited is expected to arrive within the next four to five days.

Bangladesh is set to receive a total of 25,000 tonnes of diesel from India in April.

“The government is continuing to import diesel from India through pipelines to maintain adequate fuel reserves and ensure uninterrupted supply,” the depot manager told the newspaper.
