Beijing, Jan 8 (IBNS): At least 20 children were injured when a man attacked a primary school in China's Beijing city with a knife on Tuesday, media reports said.

The attack happened around 11:17 a.m. at the Beijing No. 1 Affiliated Elementary School of Xuanwu Normal School, according to the government of Xicheng District, reported Xinhua news agency of the country.

The injured children were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Three of the students are said to be in serious conditions.

The suspect has been caught and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.

China's kindergarten knife attack case:

China's Supreme People's Court (SPC) on Monday said a man, who was convicted in the kindergarten knife attack case in south China, was executed on Friday after his death sentence was approved, media reports said.

After re-examination, the SPC confirmed that defendant Qin Peng'an, a peasant from the village of Nanshan in Pingxiang, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, brought a kitchen knife to a kindergarten in the city on Jan. 4, 2017, and attacked children out of retaliation, Xinhua news agency of China reported.

Several children were injured in the attack.

Qin had escaped from the place after the attack.

He later surrendered to the police.
