Canada Post cuts fuel surcharge by 15% on domestic parcels through the holiday shipping push
Ottawa: Canada Post said it will take 15 per cent off its published fuel surcharge on eligible domestic parcel services from Oct. 5 to Jan. 3, 2027, offering shippers some relief during one of the busiest stretches of the year.
The discount applies to the fuel surcharge only, not to the total shipping price, and will be applied automatically to eligible customers, the postal service said. After the discount is applied, the surcharge will not fall below a minimum threshold of 25 per cent.
Canada Post said the temporary measure is meant to help businesses manage shipping costs over the fall and holiday period, when parcel volumes typically climb, and that Canadians sending eligible domestic parcels will also benefit.
It described the move as building on its ongoing efforts to support businesses through competitive pricing, ecommerce solutions and shipping tools.
Fuel surcharges are a standard industry practice used to reflect changes in transportation fuel costs, the company said, and have been part of its pricing for nearly 20 years. Canada Post's domestic fuel surcharge is based on the average price of diesel fuel in Canada and is adjusted weekly.
The company did not say in its announcement which parcel services qualify as “eligible,” or give the current surcharge rate.
