4 wounded in landmine blast in southwestern Tunisia

Tunis, Apr 21 (Xinhua/UNI) The Tunisian authorities said a landmine explosion wounded four civilians in Orbata mountain in Tunisia's southwestern province of Gafsa on Saturday.

"All the wounded were evacuated by helicopter to the Gafsa Regional Hospital for treatment," said Houssem Jbabli, spokesman of the National Guard, during a press briefing.

"One of them was seriously injured," he added.

According to Jbabli, security troops and civilians in Tunisia have been targeted by attacks, landmine blasts and ambushes for years.

Dozens of terrorists, belonging to the al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and the Islamic State militant group, have been hiding in mountainous areas in Tunisia, according to authorities.

These terrorists have planted hundreds of landmines to prevent the advance of the army and security forces, killing dozens of military and security personnel as well as civilians.
