Air Canada Foundation flies more than 1,000 children to U.S. theme parks
Montreal: More than 1,000 children across Canada travelled to theme parks in Florida and California this year through Dreams Take Flight, an annual charitable programme supported by Air Canada and the Air Canada Foundation.
Dreams Take Flight, founded in 1989 by Air Canada employees in Toronto, provides children facing medical, physical or social challenges with a one-day trip to a major theme park.
The programme now operates eight chapters across the country and is run entirely by volunteers. Air Canada supplies aircraft and operational support for each trip.
Children selected through partner organisations travel with volunteers, including current and retired Air Canada staff, who accompany them throughout the day.
“I am profoundly thankful for the Air Canada Foundation’s steadfast partnership,” said Denise Egglestone, president of Dreams Take Flight Canada.
“Their support enables our dedicated volunteers to deliver a day of magic for children who need it most.”
Brigitte Saint-Pierre, director of official languages and community engagement at Air Canada, thanking the volunteers, said, "Children experience a day that lifts their spirits and reminds them that their dreams are worth believing in.
"It’s a day filled with laughter, wonder, and possibility, creating memories that stay with them long after the plane has landed. That is something we value deeply and are proud to support."
Since its first flight more than 35 years ago, the programme has brought more than 35,000 children to theme parks in the United States.
The Air Canada Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation focused on the health and well-being of children and youth, was launched in 2012.
