Stuttgart Open: Kristina Mladenovic beats Maria Sharapova

Stuttgart (Germany), Apr 30 (IBNS): Kristina Mladenovic defeated Russian Maria Sharapova in the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open here.

Mladenovic defeated her opponent 3-6 7-5 6-4.

The result was crucial for Maria as it was her first defeat since returning from a 15-month doping ban.

The winner of the clash will face German Laura Siegemund in the final.

Sharapova needed to reach the final in Germany in order to be eligible to qualify for the upcoming French Open.
