India's quest for a medal on Day 1 of the Paris Olympics faced a setback when shooters missed the finals by one point in the 10-metre air rifle mixed team event on Saturday.

The Indian teams, Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh, and Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta, could not remain within the top four.

Ramita and Arjun came agonizingly close to qualification as they finished in sixth place with a score of 628.7.

Norway and Germany both scored 629.7 as they clinched the final spot for the bronze medal match.

Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh ended the final clash in the 12th place, scoring 626.3 points, remaining far behind the top leaders.
