World number one Jannik Sinner defeated Taylor Fritz to clinch the US Open title on Sunday.

This is the second Grand Slam title won by him.

Italy's Sinner won the title by beating the  American 12th seed Fritz  6-3 6-4 7-5.

He had last won the Australian Open in January.

After winning the match,Jannik Sinner raised his hands towards the sky after he became the first player since Guillermo Vilas in 1977 to clinch the first two Grand Slams in the same year.

“This title means so much, because the last period of my career was really not easy,"  Sinner was quoted as saying by US Open website.

"I love tennis, I practice a lot for these stages. I understood, especially in this tournament, how important the mental part is in this sport. I’m very happy, very proud to share this moment with my team," he said.

Taylor Fritz missed the chance to become an American male player to win the Grand Slam in 21 years.
