IPL 2017: Royal Challengers beat Gujarat Lions by 21 runs

Bengaluru, Apr 18 (IBNS): Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Gujarat Lions by 21 runs to register their second win in the tenth edition of IPL, on Tuesday.

Winning the toss, Lions captain Suresh Raina asked RCB to bat first and both the openers, Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli, scored half centuries to help the team to post a total of 203 for the loss of two wickets.

Travis Head who played in place of AB de Villiers scored unbeaten 30 runs while Kedar Yadav contributed 38 runs who also lasted for 20 overs.

Chasing a total of 204, Lions responded soundly with the bat to take the game till last over.

Brendon McCullum scored a fighting 72 runs in 44 balls but could not help the team to cross the mark.

Though there were small contributions from Raina, Jadeja and Kishan, Lions could had fallen short of the target.

Yuzvendra Chahal took 3 wickets for Lions to help RCB clinch a must win game.

Chris Gayle who was not among runs in this IPL, had a blistering knock of 77 runs.

With this win, RCB moves to 6th place in current IPL standings, while Lions at the last position.
