India's tour to Australia: Shubman Gill replaces Rohit Sharma as ODI skipper

The selectors of the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Saturday named Shubman Gill as the new skipper of the Indian ODI team, replacing Rohit Sharma.

The selectors added Shreyas Iyer as his deputy in the Indian team that will visit Australia for the ODI series.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have retired from T20 and Test formats, were named in the 50-over squad that will face the World Champions on their turf.

While Yashasvi Jaiswal made a comeback to the ODI squad, pacer Jasprit Bumrah was rested.

India will play three ODI matches in Australia.

Under Rohit Sharma's leadership, India had won the Champions Trophy title earlier this year.

Rohit Sharma and Kohli will be returning to competitive cricket for the first time since their Indian Premier League outings this year.

In the T20 edition, Suryakumar Yadav, who recently led a young squad to Asia Cup glory, was named as the skipper for the shortest format's team that will take on Australia in a five-match series.

India’s ODI squad: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal.

India’s T20I squad: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill (VC), Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Sanju Samson (WK), Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar.
