India's T20 World Cup triumph: Former head coach Rahul Dravid refuses Rs. 2.5 crore extra bonus reward

Rahul Dravid won more hearts with his gesture recently after he refused to take Rs 2.5 crore extra bonus awarded by the Indian cricket board (BCCI) to the players and coaching staff members following India's high-octane T20 World victory in West Indies after beating South Africa in the final.

Dravid decided to ensure all members of the support staff get equal bonus prizes.

The Indian cricket board had announced Rs. 125 crore bonus for players and support staff after the victory.

While the players and Rahul Dravid were awarded Rs 5 crore, the other members of the support staff, including batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip were slated to receive Rs 2.5 crore as bonus, reported India Today.

A source told the Indian news channel that Rahul Dravid told the board that he would only take Rs 2.5 crore as a bonus.

Rahul Dravid ended the Indian team's coaching career on a high note by mentoring Rohit Sharma and his men to win the T20 World Cup.

Last year, he was left disappointed since India lost the final of the World Cup in Ahmedabad against Australia.

The same team had defeated India in the final of the World Test Championship in 2023.

Gautam Gambhir is India's new coach

Gautam Gambhir has been named the Indian cricket team's next head coach, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed on social media on Wednesday.

"It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr @GautamGambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close," Jay Shah posted from his official handle on X (formerly known as Twitter).

"Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward. His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey," he said.
