Mumbai/IBNS: Both social and mainstream media in India is abuzz with the plight of migrant workers desperate to reach far away homes amid an unforgiving lockdown. While many slam governments, a few chose to do more than just smartphone social media activism. Bollywood actor Sonu Sood is one. He has been helping several stranded migrant workers to reach homes hundreds to over a thousand miles away by arranging buses, satisfied to see these people "happy" and "emotional" as they set off for their towns and villages.

Sood along with his team has recently flagged off 10 buses carrying 300-350 migrant workers from Maharashtra to Karnataka.

The actor said his team is also trying to help migrant workers from other states like Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar to reach their homes.

Narrating his experience, Sood told Mumbai Mirror, "It was so satisfying to see them happy and emotional that they are going home. We have been trying to put together a plan to send people to Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar among other places.

We are in the final stages of putting things together for Ranchi and Bihar. The paperwork is in process. If everything goes well, we will try to send them today or tomorrow.”

However, the Happy New Year actor has said all social distancing norms were followed in accommodating the migrant workers in the buses.

Earlier Sood had opened his hotel in Juhu here for health workers who are fighting against the deadly Covid-19.
