Tennessee tornadoes: Singing icon Taylor Swift donates $1 million to victims

Singing sensation Taylor Swift tried to help people in Tennessee who were ravaged by tornadoes by donating $1 million to the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund at the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

Hal Cato, CEO of the community foundation, confirmed Swift’s contribution, reported USA Today.

Though she’s often seen socializing on the East Coast, the megastar just named Time magazine’s Person of the Year has ties to Nashville, where she still lives and has her office, the American newspaper reported.

At least six people died in the US state of Tennessee as a result of a storm that hit the state on Saturday (December 9, 2023), with three casualties in Montgomery County and three in the city of Nashville in Davidson County, according to local authorities and police.

"Multiple power lines/poles down along Gallatin N/OHB area. Severe damage along Nesbitt Ln where there are at least 3 fatalities," the Nashville police earlier said on X.

The city's mayor had declared a state of emergency.

A state of emergency was also declared in the city of Clarksville in Montgomery County.
