Mumbai, Apr 7 (IBNS) After making waves at several international film festivals, the makers of Dev Patel-Jeremy Irons starrer The Man Who Knew Infinity have unveiled the first poster of the upcoming biopic, which is based on the life of renowned mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.

The poster features the film’s lead actors Dev Patel, who is essaying the role of Ramanujan and Jeremy Irons, who has played the role of Professor GH Hardy, along with the film’s leading lady Devika Bhise and Toby Jones and Stephen Fry.

Set against the backdrop of the First World War, the film is based on Robert Kanigel’s eponymous book, which revolves around a friendship that forever changed the vast world of mathematics.

TMWKI follows the journey of Ramanujan, a poor self-taught Indian mathematician, from Madras to the prestigious Trinity College, Cambridge. There he forges a bond with his mentor, the eccentric Professor GH Hardy. How he fights against prejudices to reveal his mathematical genius to the world forms the rest of the plot.

The film introduces Devika Bhise, who is essaying the role of Ramanujan's wife Janaki. A trained classical dancer, Devika did a lot of research to get into the skin of her character and she also spoke to author Robert Kanigel, who had met the real-life Janaki later in her life, to understand the nuances of her character.

An Edward R. Pressman/Animus Films production in association with Cayenne Pepper Productions, The Man Who Knew Infinity, starring Dev Patel, Jeremy Irons, Devika Bhise, Stephen Fry, Toby Jones and Arundhati Nag, has been written and directed by Matthew Brown and is slated to release, in English and Tamil, on Apr 29.
