Hema Malini, daughters skip Dharmendra’s prayer meet; fans left wondering as B-Town gathers to pay tribute
Veteran actress Hema Malini and her daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol were conspicuously absent from the prayer meet held for legendary actor Dharmendra in Mumbai on Thursday.
The solemn gathering, organised by the Deol family at Taj Lands End, drew a large number of celebrities who came to pay their final respects to the iconic star, who passed away on November 24 at the age of 89.
The event saw the presence of numerous film personalities, including Rekha, Salman Khan, Aryan Khan, Ameesha Patel, Soha Ali Khan, Sidharth Malhotra, Neha Dhupia, Angad Bedi and others.
Singer Sonu Nigam performed some of Dharmendra’s most cherished songs as a musical tribute to the late actor.
While Hema Malini and her daughters were not seen at the prayer meet, several celebrities — among them Mahima Chaudhry, Sunita Ahuja and Yashvardan Ahuja — were later spotted visiting the actress’s residence.
NDTV, quoting sources, said that a few close friends chose to offer their condolences to Hema Malini privately after the Taj Lands End event.
Earlier in the day, Hema Malini broke her silence on X, sharing her first post since Dharmendra’s death.
In a deeply emotional tribute, she described the legendary actor as the centre of her life- a devoted husband, a guiding force and a constant companion.
“Dharam ji… he was everything to me,” she wrote, calling him a loving partner, an adoring father, a philosopher, and her “go to” person in every moment of need. She praised his humility, universal appeal and lasting legacy in Indian cinema, saying his achievements would “endure forever.”

He was many things to me. Loving Husband, adoring Father of our two girls, Esha & Ahaana, Friend, Philosopher, Guide, Poet, my ‘go to’ person in all times of need - in fact, he was everything to me! And always has been through good times and bad. He endeared himself… pic.twitter.com/WVyncqlxK5
Calling her loss “indescribable,” Hema Malini said the void left behind would remain with her always.
Dharmendra and Hema Malini married in 1980. The actor, already married to Prakash Kaur at the time, had four children — Sunny, Bobby, Ajeeta and Vijeta. With Hema Malini, he had two daughters, Esha and Ahana.
