Dubai/Mumbai, Feb 27 (IBNS) : Dubai Police on Tuesday handed over the Indian consulate and the family members letters for the release of the mortal remains of the Indian cinema icon Sridevi so that they can proceed for embalming, media reports said.

The body of the actress, who suddenly died in a Dubai hotel on Saturday, is expected to be flown back to Mumbai on Tuesday amid speculations about the exact cause of her death.

On Monday, Dubai Police revealed that Sridevi’s death ‘occurred due to drowning in her hotel apartment’s bathtub following loss of consciousness. This added a new twist to the episode as early report suggested that she died following a cardiac arrest.

Some media reports also claimed that traces of alcohol have been found in her blood in the autopsy report.

Sridevi along with her husband, producer Bonney Kapoor and other members of the entire family  was in UAE to attend the wedding ceremony of Mohit Marwah, a close relative.

The news of Sridevi’s death came as a huge shock to the entire film fraternity as well as her fans.

Sridevi’s mortal remains are still in the mortuary in Dubai.

According to an Asianet report on February 27, a head injury was found on the actor’s body.

Earlier on Tuesday Khaleej Times had said that  Indian Consulate officials are awaiting a clearance letter from the Dubai Public Prosecution.

The daily reported that the Dubai Police were following protocol in order to unearth the specifics of the death before handing over the body considering the sensitive nature of the case.

As fans and celebrities await Sridevi's mortal remains to return to India, the Dubai Police on Monday had recorded her husband Boney Kapoor's statement in connection with the case.
