Dhurandhar in trouble! Major Mohit Sharma’s family moves Delhi HC against Ranveer Singh-starrer despite director’s clarification

Mumbai/IBNS: In a setback for director Aditya Dhar's upcoming film Dhurandhar, the parents of Late Major Mohit Sharma have approached the Delhi High Court seeking an immediate stay on the release of the Ranveer Singh-starrer, media reports said.

The family, in its petition, alleged that the makers did not seek permission from them or the Indian Army before depicting elements related to the Late Major’s personal life, undercover missions and martyrdom.

They argued that the film appears to mirror key events from the officer’s career and counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

“A martyr is not a commercial commodity,” the plea stated, strongly objecting to the alleged recreation of Major Sharma’s life “for profit, without truth, dignity, or due permission.”

The petition further accused the filmmakers of infringing upon Major Sharma’s personality rights under Article 21 of the Constitution and violating the family’s privacy, dignity and emotional well-being, News18 reported. Another serious allegation raised in the plea involves concerns over potential national security compromises.

According to the family, the film portrays sensitive military strategies, infiltration attempts and operational details without obtaining mandatory clearance from the Indian Army’s Directorate General of Public Information.

However, director Aditya Dhar has previously issued an official clarification, asserting that Dhurandhar is a purely fictional narrative and not based on any real individual.

When Late Major Sharma’s brother, Madhur Sharma, questioned the makers on X, Dhar responded: “Hi sir — our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification.

“I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent, in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation… Jai Hind.”
