Bollywood's veteran actor Dilip Kumar turns 97

Mumbai/UNI/IBNS: Superstar and legendary actor Muhammed Yusuf Khan aka Dilip Kumar, who debuted in Indian cinema with 'Jwar Bhata' (1944) and featured in over 65 films in his movie career, turned 97 on Wednesday.

The iconic actor expressed gratitude towards his fans and Bollywood fraternities. He tweeted,'On this 97th birthday, calls and messages have been pouring in since last night-thank you! Celebrations are not important- your boundless love, affection and prayers have always brought tears of gratitude in my eyes.'

Known as 'The Tragedy King' and 'The First Khan', Dilip Kumar has been credited with bringing realism to film acting since his first film.

Acclaimed as one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema, he has won nine Filmfare Awards and is the first recipient of the Filmfare Best Actor Award.

He married actress Saira Bano in 1966.
