Akshay Kumar's Gold crosses Rs 100 cr at box office

Mumbai, Aug 28 (IBNS): Actor Akshay Kumar's newly released Hindi film Gold took 13 days to earn Rs 100 crore at the Indian box office.

After a steep downfall in the box office collection in the second weekend since its release, Gold collected Rs 1.45 crore on Monday.

Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Gold crosses ₹ 100 cr mark on Day 13... [Week 2] Fri 1.85 cr, Sat 3.10 cr, Sun 4.75 cr, Mon 1.45 cr. Total: ₹ 100.45 cr. India biz... Akshay Kumar’s ninth film in ₹ 100 cr Club."

Gold, which tells the story of the Indian hockey team's first Olympic gold medal after independence, released on Aug 15.

The film released on the occasion of the country's 72nd Independence Day.

Apart from Akshay, the film stars actress Mouni Roy in one of the lead roles.

Mouni, who made her debut with the Reema Kagti directorial Gold, is a popular face on Indian television.

Actors Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh and Sunny Kaushal featured in distinct roles in the film.

Dressed in kurta and dhoti, Akshay was seen playing an alcoholic, Bengali man, named Tapan Das.
