‘Whatever is happening in India won’t ever stop’: Disha Patani's sister Khushboo Patani urges women to use air pistol for self-defence

New Delhi/IBNS: Former Army officer and Bollywood actor Disha Patani's sister, Khushboo Patani, has shared a message on women's self-defence amid rising cases of crime against women.

In a video posted on Instagram, Khushboo urged women to consider learning to use a CO₂ air pistol for self-defence and stressed the importance of proper training.

“You can buy this, keep this with yourself and protect yourself; don’t depend on anyone because whatever is happening in India won't ever stop,” she said.

Demonstrating how the air pistol works in the video, Khushboo emphasised that it should be used responsibly and strictly for self-defence.

She further said it should only be considered in a “do or die situation.”

Khushboo also claimed that no licence is required for the particular air pistol she demonstrated, the 77 Air Pistol Glock 17 Gen 4, but stressed the need for “good shooting practice.”

Recent cases raise fresh concerns over women’s safety

Khushboo’s message comes amid a series of recent cases of alleged sexual violence against women and minor girls in Delhi.

On September 21, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted at Aastha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Temple by three men who allegedly posed as police officers. The incident triggered student protests and renewed demands for stronger safety measures in the national capital.

Earlier in September, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Outer North Delhi, with her decomposed body later found in an open field. Police subsequently apprehended four people in connection with the case.

Another case reported this month involved an 11-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted inside a tailoring shop in Sadar Bazaar. Police arrested a 56-year-old man in connection with the case.

A September 24 report by Outlook said at least 13 alleged rape and sexual assault cases had been reported across Delhi and neighbouring NCR districts since the beginning of the month, involving women, children and teenagers in different settings.

The recent incidents have also prompted discussions around surveillance, lighting, policing and security in public spaces. Following the Kalkaji case, authorities ordered reviews of safety arrangements in parks and other vulnerable areas.
