Kolkata/Nadia, Feb 4 (IBNS): A local court in West Bengal's Nadia district on Thursday awarded death sentence to 11 men, including a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, after convicting them for murdering a woman over a land conflict.

According to reports, when local TMC leader Lankeshwar Ghosh and his team were trying to encroach a 9-acre controversial land at Ghughrogachi village near Krishnaganj in Nadia district on Nov 23 in 2014, few farmers tried to prevent them.

A  woman- Aparna Bag- was killed and several others were injured, when Lankeshwar and his men fired bullets and threw bombs, aiming at the farmers.

After the incident, police nabbed 11 accused including Lankeshwar Ghosh, while one accused- Manabeswar Biswas- is still absconding.

On Tuesday, Additional District and Sessions Judge (III) of Krishnanagar Court, Partha Sarathi Mukherjee convicted them under several sections and awarded them with death sentence on Thursday.
