Kolkata, Dec 23 (IBNS): Taking an aim to promote the folk artists of the state and their music, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday inaugurated the Biswa Bangla Lok Sanskriti Utsav (Folk Culture Festival) on a floating stage at Lal Dighi near Writers Building in Kolkata.

Apart from Lal Dighi the festival is also being held at another location- Princep Ghat- in the city.

Folk music and dance by several Bengal-based folk artists will be performed between 4 pm. to 8 pm. and 3 pm. to 6 pm. daily at Princep Ghat and Lal Dighi respectively.

Inaugurating the festival here, Mamata Banerjee said, "Folk artists are our pride. We have registered 50000 folk artists under Lok Prasar Prakalpa (Folk Promotion Scheme). I am proud we are using folk artists for govt advertisements. We are also giving them financial stipends every month."

"This year we have developed a new concept of setting up a floating stage on Lal Dighi. In future we have plans to turn Lal Dighi into a cultural centre where events can take place. Lok Utsav will be celebrated in every block of the state in future," Banerjee further added.

The festival will be continued till Jan 1.
