Violence in Bengal claims first life, situation remains tense in Basirhat, central BJP to send delegation
According to reports, nearly 45-year-old Kartick Ghosh was seriously hurt during the violence on Monday after which he was taken to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Claiming that Kartick Ghosh was a RSS supporter, several BJP leaders, including Dilip Ghosh, Locket Chatterjee and Kailash Vijayvargiya went to R.G. Kar hospital on Thursday afternoon and engaged in a scuffle with TMC activists there after the BJP team barred from entering the hospital.
Meanwhile, situation at violence hit Baduria and its adjacent areas in Basirhat sub-division remains tense. Local police force along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) and central paramilitary forces (BSF) are carrying out route march at the violence-hit areas.
CrPC section 144 has been imposed there while broadband internet connection has been blocked across North 24 Parganas district since last Tuesday night.
According to the latest update, a fresh clash was reported between security forces and mob near Basirhat railway station area on Thursday evening. Bricks, stones, petrol-bombs and several crude-bombs were allegedly thrown aiming at police force while few police vehicles were vandalized.
A large police force along with BSF personnel have been deployed to the scene to bring the situation under control.
Meanwhile, BJP leaderships in Delhi have announced to depute a three-member delegation, comprising Om Prakash Mathur, Satyapal Singh and Meenakshi Lekhi, to the violence-hit areas in Basirhat sub-division for fact checking and to get a complete ground report.
Demanding a judicial probe into the violence, compensation for the victims of day-long clash and immediate restoration of peace at the violence-hit areas, a public interest litigation has been lodged at the Calcutta High Court.
Arson and clashes occurred between members of two communities in Baduria in Basirhat sub-division of the district over a FB post since earlier this week.
Police and paramilitary forces combatted the irate mobs.
