Ummer Fayaz laid to rest with full military honour

Srinagar, May 10 (IBNS): Military honor and wreath laying ceremony was conducted to pay tribute to the Lt Ummer Fayaz who was abducted and killed by suspected militants in South Kashmir on Wednesday.

Ummer was kidnapped by suspected militants from the wedding ceremony of a cousin in shopian village the hotbed of militancy found dead near Hermain area of kulgam town.

Defence Minister Arun Jaitley called the killing of a 22-year-old Army officer in Kashmir an "act of cowardice", adding that the sacrifice reiterates nation's commitment to eliminate "terrorism".

ccording to reports, during funeral ceremony youth pelt on security forces, however security forces restraint and marched through the village peacefully.

“It is painful to note that the young officer had come home on  vacation where he was attending the marriage of his cousin and was  killed by unknown gunmen,” Jammu and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said in an official statement.

"His memory will never be forgotten. Those who tried to defeat what he stood for will themselves be defeated," Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi he said on Twitter.

Studied at Navodaya Vidyalaya, at Ashmuquam in South Kashmir, joined the Army after being commissioned in December last year and was presently posted in Akhnoor area of Jammu town.
