TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee heckled in Sonarpur, eggs thrown at him
Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly heckled by a group of locals during a visit to Sonarpur in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Saturday.
According to reports, Banerjee had visited the area to meet families affected by alleged post-poll violence.
During the visit, some individuals reportedly raised slogans against the Diamond Harbour MP and threw stones, shoes, and eggs in his direction.
The incident is said to have occurred when Banerjee visited Vivekanandanagar in Ward No. 9 of Rajpur-Sonarpur Municipality to meet the family of Sanju Karmakar, who was reportedly a victim of post-poll violence, according to The Telegraph.
Videos purportedly showing the incident have since gone viral on social media.
Reacting to the development, BJP leader Rakesh Singh wrote on X: "Power should never be mistaken for permanence."

"Those who once believed they could silence opponents through intimidation and arrogance are now witnessing how quickly circumstances can change. Positions of authority come and go, but the impact of words and actions remains," he added.
The incident comes days after the All India Trinamool Congress suffered a significant setback in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Following the election results announced on May 4, security arrangements outside Banerjee's south Kolkata residence, 'Shantiniketan', were scaled down, with additional police deployment withdrawn two days later.
BJP Bengal President Samik Bhattacharya said such an incident is not expected in a democracy.
"Our party is not involved in this incident," he said.
