TMC leader nabbed with firearms at Kolkata airport, sent to custody
Kolkata, Feb 2 (IBNS): The Barrackpore Sub Division Court on Tuesday sent Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Narendranath Chakraborty, who was earlier held from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI-CCU) in Kolkata for carrying fire arms, to judicial custody for 14 days.
When TMC's Pandabeswar block president Narendranath Chakraborty was scheduled travel to Chennai in a SpiceJet flight on Sunday afternoon, one revolver and at least three live cartridges were spotted inside his bag through a luggage-scanner, during security checks.
The CISF detained the TMC leader and handed over to the police later. Police from NSCBI Airport Police station arrested Chakraborty and have charged him under Arms Act section 25(1)(a).
He was produced to the same court earlier on Monday and sent to one-day police custody. The court also directed the police to produce Narendranath Chakraborty along with case diary on Tuesday.
When he was produced again to the court on Tuesday, judge sent him to judicial custody for 14 days, as police did not appeal for his police-custody term's extension.
However, TMC's secretary general Partha Chatterjee told IBNS, "Our Burdwan district observer- Aroop Biswas- is handling the matter. He has been directed to submit a report, regarding this incident, to the party. After receiving the report, party will take necessary action against Narendranath Chakraborty. Police have already taken legal steps against him and police investigation will be forwarded in its own way."
