There are countries who use terrorism as instrument of policy, isolate them: Modi at G20 summit

Antalya, Turkey, Nov 16 (IBNS) Suggesting a "comprehensive global strategy to combat terrorism," Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday there are countries who use terrorism as an instrument of state policy and it is high time they are isolated.

Speaking at the G20 summit, Modi also pitched  for snapping the  supply of arms and finance to terrorists.

As the world was yet to recover from the shock of Friday's deadly terror attacks in Paris that killed at least 129 people, Modi said terrorism is a  "principal global challenge" that poses a new level of threat to pluralist and open societies. "There should be no distinction between terrorist groups or discrimination between states.  Increase international cooperation in intelligence and counter-terrorism," he said.

"There are countries that still use terrorism as an instrument of state policy. Isolate those who support and sponsor terrorism," Modi said.

The Prime Minister urged all countries to "speak in once voice"  and act in unison against terrorism, without any political considerations.

Presenting a ten-point plan to contain terrorism, he called for restructuring of the  international legal framework to deal with the special challenges terrorism throws up.

"mmediately adopt a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism," he said.
"Countries must help each other secure cyber space and minimise use of internet and social media for terrorist activities," Modi said.
He also called for involving  religious leaders, thinkers and opinion makers for a social movement against extremism, particularly addressed to the youth.

Modi called for a much stronger role of the UN in curbing down terror. He along with other global leaders raised the burning issue of 'foreign jihadists', and in a joint statement said that it must be controlled.
