Tension grips Assam-Nagaland border, hundreds flee

Guwahati, Aug 13 (IBNS) : Tension ran high in Assam-Nagaland border after suspected Naga militants killed at least three people.

The death toll rose to three after one more body was recovered from  B-sector under Dhansiri sub division in Golaghat district along Nagaland border on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, suspected Naga militants shot dead two persons and injured three others.

Meanwhile, hundred of families from Assam side had fled from the border area and took shelter at several shelter camps at Uriumghat in Golaghat area.

On the other hand, suspected Naga miscreants had torched at least 70 houses in the Assam side bordering villages on Tuesday night.

Security forces were deployed in the affected areas.

Assam and Nagaland governments have appealed to the people on both states to calm down the situation.

The incident occurred after two minor boys were kidnapped by suspected Naga militants and local residents from Assam side on Tuesday protested the abduction.
