BJP calls Rahul Gandhi ‘gaddar’ citing Fox News report on French protest links

| @indiablooms | Oct 22, 2026, at 10:47 pm

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, citing a Fox News Digital investigation that alleged links between anti-Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) protests in India and demonstrations in France and other countries.

The report, titled Global Chaos Inc Grows to 101 Groups, claims to have identified 101 organisations across 13 countries that allegedly coordinate, organise or amplify protests.

It also points to connections between youth-led demonstrations in India and unrest elsewhere.

Citing the report, the BJP accused the Congress of being part of an alleged “anarchy and regime change plot” and branded Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi a “gaddar” (traitor).

There was no immediate reaction from the Congress to the allegations.

BJP alleges ‘foreign links’ to protests

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia accused Rahul Gandhi of promoting what he described as a model of anarchy and betrayal, alleging that the report pointed to links between protest movements and foreign agencies.

“Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is presenting a model of anarchy and ‘gaddari’ before the country,” Bhatia said, questioning who was leading the alleged network.

He further claimed that the investigation revealed an ecosystem spanning multiple countries that sought to destabilise elected governments.

Referring to the report’s description of a “red-green ecosystem of protest”, Bhatia said the term represented alleged cooperation between communist and Islamic groups.

Progressive international under BJP’s scanner

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also cited the investigation in a post on X, alleging that it exposed an “anarchy and regime change plot” involving the Congress.

Bhandari said the report flagged the role of Progressive International (PI), an organisation that he alleged had coordinated common messaging across protests in France, Albania and India.

He further claimed that the messaging was aimed at “acquiring organised power through new rebellion”, which he characterised as an attempt at regime change.

These assertions were presented by the BJP as evidence of a broader international network behind the protests.

BJP questions Rahul, Sonia Gandhi’s alleged meeting

Bhandari also alleged that Rahul Gandhi and Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi had met representatives of Progressive International at 10 Janpath on April 10, 2025.

He claimed the alleged meeting raised questions about the Congress’s links with what he described as foreign anti-democratic forces.

The BJP spokesperson demanded that the Congress clarify whether it had coordinated with Progressive International during the protests.

The Congress had not issued an immediate response to the allegations at the time of publication.

The controversy comes amid political tensions over protests targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other demonstrations in the national capital.
