Supreme Court refuses to grant interim relief to Karti Chidambaram

New Delhi, Mar 6 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to grant interim relief to former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti, who has been arrested in an alleged money laundering case in connection to INX media, media reports said.

The top court has also turned down Karti's plea to quash the Enforcement Directorate's summons against him.

Speaking on behalf of Karti, his lawyer Kapil Sibal, who is also a Congress leader, told the court, "We are willing to co-operate in every way and we also did so. I am worried about my arrest."

Sibal was quoted by Times Now.

The top court will hear the matter next on March 9.

In a writ petition, Karti has challenged the ED saying it has no jurisdiction to send him summons simply on the basis of the FIR lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Karti is presently in CBI custody for his alleged involvement to the money laundering case.

A case was filed against Karti by the Enforcement Directorate in May last year alleging irregularities in the grant of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving foreign investment of over Rs. 300 crore in 2007.

P Chidambaram, a Congress veteran, was serving as the Union Finance Minister during that period.

The CBI had filed separate case against Karti and others on the basis of information about alleged illegal payments made by INX media.
