Srinagar: District administration launches crackdown against trucks carrying material for illegal constructions

Srinagar, Jun 22 (UNI): The District administration in Srinagar has launched a massive crackdown against tippers (trucks) carrying material for illegal construction in the summer capital, Srinagar, official sources said on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Shahib Choudhary hailing the officials of different department for crackdown against land mafia involved in illegal constructions in the city said permanent check points would be set up in different parts of the city to foil such activities.

Dr Choudhary on May 31 has issued an order instructing Station House Officers (SHOs) of police stations in the city and Traffic authorities to ensure that except those with valid transportation permissions no movement of trucks carrying construction material be allowed anywhere in the district.

He also directed Lakes and Waterway Development Authority (LAWDA), Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Forest Department to set up night checkpoints at entry points to prevent nighttime transportation of material for illegal constructions. He further directed for immediate seizure of all such vehicles or load-carriers transporting construction material in violation of guidelines already issued in this regard.

The personnel from different departments conducted crackdown late Friday night and seized dozens of tippers from different parts of the district.

Dr Choudhary visited several spots where seizures of these tipper were made and issued strict instructions against their release. He also directed officials to take steps for immediate cancellation of their registrations.

While lauding the SSP Traffic Tahir Gilani and his team for their key role in the crackdown, he said the seizures made last night is the beginning, adding that a proper arrangement as per plan has been put in place to dismantle the land mafia and curb illegal constructions and dealings therein.

Taking micro-blogging site twitter Dr Choudhary said, ''Excellent efforts by entire team. Compliments to SSP Traffic @Syedtg ADC Mr Sidha SP Mr Dawood SDM Mr Sandeep Tehsildars SHOs n all men in uniform n without. This will continue. Permanent check posts soon. ''

He further said ''Big Night!! Massive crackdown against illegal constructions mafia across #Srinagar city. Stay tuned''.
