New Delhi, Oct 16 (IBNS): BJP leader Sangeet Som's controversial comment on Taj Mahal has been criticised by several public figures on social media.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen President Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted: "Even Hyderabad House in delhi was built by "Traitor"will MODI stop hosting Foreign Dignitaries??."

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah remarked: "No more Red Fort speeches on 15th August? “The PM will address the nation from Nehru Stadium” will fill some hearts with unabashed glee."

Comedian Tanmay Bhat remarked: "Taj Mahal is such a non issue but politicians will continue to try and divide this country aur yaha twitter pe hum RW LW khelte rahe hai."

He said: "There's so much else to discuss and yet the agenda for the day is Taj Mahal and you'll hear the words Hindu Muslim on national TV all day."

BJP leader Sangeet Som has triggered a controversy by saying that Taj Mahal was built by 'traitors'.

Controversy was created recently when Taj Mahal was removed from a Uttar Pradesh tourism booklet.

Som even said that Taj Mahal was a 'blot on Indian culture'.

Addressing a rally here, Som said: "Many people were worried that the Taj Mahal was removed from the list of historical places in the UP tourism booklet."

"What history are we talking about? The man who built Taj Mahal imprisoned his father," Som said.

"He wanted to destroy Hindus. If this is history, then I can guarantee you that it is very unfortunate and we are going to change this history," he said.

Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had built Taj Mahal in Agra city of Uttar Pradesh.

Thousands of tourists from across the globe visit Agra to see this grand Mughal building every year.
