New Delhi, Aug 21 (IBNS) The Centre on Thursday decided to stall the release of a Punjabi film titled 'Kaum De Heere' which is based on the assassination of ex- Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi, media reports said.

According to reports, the film glorifies Gandhi's assassins.

The Intelligence Bureau earlier told the Union Home Ministry that the release of the film might trigger communal tension, media reports said.

Political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, has demanded a ban on the movie which was scheduled to hit the silver screen on Friday.

Indira Gandhi had served as prime minister of India for three consecutive terms (1966–77) and a fourth term from 1980 to 1984 when she was assassinated by her bodyguards.

Anti-Sikh riots erupted in Delhi and elsewhere following the assassination of Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.
