Rajya Sabha adjourned thrice over Arunachal Pradesh issue

New Delhi, Dec 18 (IBNS) A united opposition on Friday forced three adjournments in the Rajya Sabha in the pre-lunch session demanded recall of Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa as Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party staged a walk-out over the issue.

Leader of the Opposition and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said he has given a notice for adjournment of business to discuss the Arunachal Pradesh issue. He said the centre was responsible for the stalemate in Parliament for the past few days.

He said in an "unprecedented" move the Arunachal Pradesh Governor had called a session of the assembly without the consent or recommendation of the Cabinet and Chief Minister, set the agenda, decided on the seating arrangement and even set the priority of items to be taken up.

Azad said  neither the President of India nor any Governor can call  a session of Parliament or Assembly without the Cabinet approval.

"No President or Governor gave directions as to who will sit on Chair, what item will be taken up, who will be removed," Azad said.

As the opposition members kept shouting protesting the Arunachal Pradesh development, Deputy  Chairman PJ Kurien tried persuade them in vain for raising the issue in Zero Hour.

He adjourned the house  when Congress members trooped into the Well. When the House met again, members of Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party staged a walk out, while Congress members were again in the well. Members from AIADMK, CPI(M), and JD-U also joined the protest, shouting slogans for recall of the Governor.
