President Kovind, PM Modi and others attend Martyrs' Day ceremony at Rajghat

New Delhi, Jan 30 (IBNS): President of India Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha, at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, at Rajghat, in Delhi on Tuesday.

President Kovind laid a floral wreath at Mahatma Gandhi's samadhi. Vice President Naidu and Prime Minister Modi too made floral offerings.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi too paid her respects at the Samadhi in Rajghat on Tuesday.

Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, was assassinated on January 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse.

The day is not only observed as the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi but also as Martyr's Day. An all-religion prayer is also held in Rajghat to commemorate the sacrifice of the martyrs.

PM Modi tweeted on Tuesday, "We bow to all those martyrs who have sacrificed themselves in service of our nation. We will always remember their courage as well as dedication towards the nation."
