PM Narendra Modi meets BIMSTEC leaders, holds bilateral parleys

New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a series of important bilateral meetings with the visiting nation and government heads of BIMSTEC nations.

Among others, he interacted with Presidents of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

"Thank you President Maithripala Sirisena for gracing the swearing-in ceremony. I look forward to further strengthening India-Sri Lanka relations, which are time-tested and based on civilizational ties. Our meeting today was extremely fruitful," Modi tweeted.

Prime Minister Modi also met President of Bangladesh Md Abdul Hamid and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.

He also met Bhutan Prime Minister Lotay Tshering.

"Moving forward, together. PM Narendra Modi and PM Bhutan Lotay Tshering discussed bilateral commitments and agreed to further solidify the traditionally strong ties with a special focus on development partnership and hydro power," MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

After Modi met Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, MEA spokesman wrote: "Best wishes from the friendly people of Nepal. A special gift of Rudraksh for PM Narendra Modi from Prime Minister of Nepal K.P Sharma Oli".

He further wrote - "Both leaders expressed their commitment in further deepening relations, in particular between the peoples of our countries".
Continuing with his diplomatic engagements, Prime Minister held meetings with Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.

"A personal connect. Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth had a good meeting with PM Narendra Modi. Exchanged views on a range of bilateral issues, including development cooperation," MEA spokesman tweeted.
Jugnauth was the Chief Guest at the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas earlier this year.

BIMSTEC nation and government heads were invited to attend the swearing in ceremony of Prime Minister and his council of Ministers on Thursday.
