No arrests yet in case of decapitated body near Kamakhya temple

Guwahati, June 20 (IBNS/UNI): No arrest could be made so far in connection with Wednesday’s recovery of a headless body of a woman nearby the Kamakhya temple in this capital city of Assam.

Joint Commissioner of Guwahati city police Debraj Upadhyay said that, investigation is going on and Guwahati city police has registered a suo-moto case.

He said that, the incident looks like as a human sacrifice incident.

“But we can’t say it that, it is a human sacrifice incident. We have seen all of angles. The murder was committed due to superstitious beliefs. We have contacted all district police across the state about any older woman missing incident. But no such type of missing report was registered at any police station,” Debraj Upadhyay said.

The top police cop said that, the body was sent for post-mortem and was yet to be identified.

The head of the recovered body is still missing.

On Wednesday evening, police had recovered the body of an unidentified woman was found near the Banadurga Mandir located near the Kamakhya temple at the Nilachal hill.

Police had also recovered some items used for performing puja near the body.

The incident was happened at a time, while the Ambubachi Mela – a major Hindu religious event to start from June 22 at Kamakhya temple.

The incident raised questions about the security whereas the administration said that, over three hundreds CCTV are installed around the Kamakhya temple premises.

On the other hand, the Kamakhya temple authorities denied human sacrifice around the temple premise.

Kabindra Prasad Sarma, secretary of Kamakhya temple committee said that, it to be the handwork of some miscreants to malign the reputation of the historic temple.

Temple authorities told UNI today that sacrifice of the female form is not practiced in the temple since it is dedicated to a mother goddess.

“This (Kamakhya temple) is a seat of Tantric cult and as such, sacrifice is practiced here. Everyday sacrifices are offered to the Mother Goddess, but whatever is sacrificed, it is of the male gender of that species,” a temple official said.

“For instance, only goats or ox are offered as sacrificed. No female of any animal species is sacrificed,” he added.

Meanwhile, Guwahati city police has launched search operation in various suspected locations in the city.
