Mumbai HC orders BEST workers to resume work

Mumbai, Apr 1 (IBNS): The Mumbai High Court on Tuesday asked Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) workers to resume work immediately after the BEST management moved court saying the workers were creating problem for the people in the city with their protest.
BEST officials reportedly told the court that nearly 50 lakh students were affected due to the strike.
 
BEST Undertaking buses went off roads in the city on Tuesday causing trouble for Mumbaikars as drivers and conductors called a strike to protest against the new computerised scheduling system.
 
According to latest data available, the BEST runs a total of 4,680 buses, ferrying 4.8 million passengers over 365 routes, and has a workforce strength of 38,000, which includes 22,000 bus drivers and conductors (this comes to an average of 11.2 employees per bus).
