EAM S Jaishankar, among high-profile voters to get SIR notices in Delhi

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, CBI Director Praveen Sood and former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi are also among those who have reportedly received notices over discrepancies or the absence of mapping with previous electoral records.

Two members of former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani’s family have also reportedly received notices, according to media reports.

The notices have prompted clarification from Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer, with officials stressing that receiving an SIR notice does not mean that an individual's name will automatically be deleted from the electoral rolls.

An Election Commission official told NDTV that the issue had been resolved in the cases of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and S Jaishankar, and that the necessary documents were expected to be submitted for verification. The official also clarified that a notice indicates a discrepancy in documentation and does not by itself imply exclusion from the voter list.

The Delhi election authorities also said in a post on X that system-generated notices were being issued to certain categories of electors to correct their data in ECINET.

“No name can be deleted without giving an opportunity of being heard and a proper speaking and appealable order,” the election authorities said.

According to the Election Commission's latest clarification, more than 31.63 lakh notices have been served so far, while 33.13 lakh electors have been identified for notices over discrepancies in their enumeration forms.

The draft electoral roll published on August 31 contains around 97.5 lakh electors, a significant reduction from the previous roll. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4, 2026.

The Election Commission has said electors who receive notices can submit the required documents and responses to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer or Booth Level Officer. The disposal of notices is scheduled to be completed by October 29.
