Mohan Bhagwat's remark on reservation not responsible for BJP defeat in Bihar : Rajnath Singh

| | Nov 10, 2015, at 09:42 pm
New Delhi, Nov 10 (IBNS) Home minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday asserted that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s quota review remark had no effect on NDA's dismal performance in Bihar assembly elections nor Prime Minister Narendra Modi can be held responsible for the debacle.

“Bhagwat’s statement was not damaging. It was nothing controversial. We can’t think like that. He had only said that reservation should continue,” Singh told reporters at a programme.

Bhagwat had said there is a need to have a fresh look as to who should get the benefit of quota- a comment that triggered controversy ahead of the Bihar polls.

Some political leaders from within the BJP were of the view that Bhagwat's comment caused NDA's downfall in Bihar.

Replying a question whether Modi will resign as Prime Minister owning the moral responsibility for the BJP defeat, Singh said : “It’s BJP’s loss and not of the Prime Minister."

He said the BJP will  analyse all aspects of party’s defeat in the polls and will take action.

“Victory and defeat are part of the democratic process. We had won elections in the past, we had lost elections in the past. We will not do justice to future if we decide future only on the basis of one elections,” he added.
