Meghalaya police arrest two persons, recover hiding bombs

Guwahati, Oct 15 (IBNS): Meghalaya police on Saturday arrested two persons for allegedly hiding claymores in several places in East Garo Hills on behalf of the banned outfit Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), officials said on Sunday.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, the East Garo Hills district police arrested two persons identified as Jeparson N Marak and Silchon R Sangma for their alleged activities of supplying bombs to GNLA militants.

During the interrogation, the arrested persons revealed that some claymore boxes were buried at Achak Jankegre area and police recovered two claymore boxes from the area.

A top official of East Garo Hills district police said that, few more persons of the area are working for the outlawed group and police has launched operation to nab the persons.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Williamnagar police station relating to the matter.

GNLA is active in Garo Hills of Meghalaya and some parts of lower Assam.
