Maharashtra: Two get 10-yr RI in flesh trade

Thane, May 7 (UNI) A local court has awarded ten years rigorous imprisonment to two persons, including a woman sweeper from Mumbai, for pushing minors in sex trade.

While passing the judgement on Saturday, district judge P P Jadhav also fined the accused Shivnath Pal Yadav (52) and Rajani Thakur Karnawat (37) a collective sum of Rs 1 lakh.

The case against the third accused has been separated as the woman is infected with HIV.

In addition to these, there were two more accused- Harish Yadav (44), a rickshaw driver and Ranjita Ramchandra Goharia (39), a housewife, who were given the benefit of doubts and acquitted.

They were held guilty of the offences punishable u/s. 366, 366A, 372, 120B r.w. 34 of the IPC and u/s.4 and 5 of Prevention of Immoral Traffic Act (PITA).

Based on a complaint by an NGO, the CBI officials raided a hotel in Thane city on April 25, 2007 by sending a decoy customer for procuring young girls between the age group of 12 and 16 and arrested the accused.

The three victims girls were got from MP and Rajastan were 'sold' to the customers for Rs 60,000 each, the court was told.

During the raid, two were arrested.

The two acquitted were arrested later and supplementary charge sheets filed against them for involvement in the crime.

In his order the judge noted the prosecution has proved that the two accused in the case had hatched a conspiracy to procure minor girls for prostitution and trafficked three minor girls for the same.
