LK Advani to enter 100th year on November 8; BJP plans special prayers for his good health

| @indiablooms | Nov 07, 2026, at 11:13 pm

Veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani will enter his 100th year on Sunday, November 8, as the party prepares to mark his 99th birthday with a special religious ceremony and prayers for his long life and good health.

The BJP will organise a hawan and puja at its national headquarters to celebrate the occasion.

Party president Nitin Nabin and Union Minister Piyush Goyal are expected to address the gathering in the presence of Advani’s daughter, Pratibha Advani, India Today reported, citing party sources.

The religious ceremony will be followed by a special presentation highlighting Advani’s life and political career.

The programme will conclude with the distribution of prasad, the sources added.

Recent health concerns

Advani was discharged from Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi on October 19 after receiving treatment for a chest infection.

He was also admitted to the hospital in May for age-related health concerns and discharged after a few days.

The veteran leader was hospitalised several times in 2024, including at Apollo Hospitals and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

In December that year, he received intensive care before doctors discharged him on December 25.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Advani at his Delhi residence on October 7 to seek his blessings after completing 25 years as head of a government.

Following the meeting, Modi said Advani’s decades of public service had left a lasting imprint on the country's national life.

A central figure in BJP's political journey

Born in Karachi on November 8, 1927, Advani moved to India during the Partition in 1947.

He went on to become one of the most influential figures in the BJP's emergence and expansion, serving as the party's president on three occasions.

During the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government, Advani held the portfolio of Union Home Minister.

He later served as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004.

His political career spanned several decades, during which he played a prominent role in shaping the BJP's organisational and political trajectory.

Advani honoured with Bharat Ratna

In March 2024, the Centre conferred the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, on Advani in recognition of his contribution to public life.

President Droupadi Murmu presented the award at his residence in New Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders present.

The honour recognised Advani's decades-long political career and his role in Indian public affairs.
