Srinagar, Jun 1 (IBNS): Security forces killed at least two militants, who were holed up in a house at Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday morning.

On specific inputs, forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Nathipora village of Sopore at around 3:30 am about the presence of militants there.

During the searches, the two militants opened fire on the forces, triggering the gun-battle in a retaliatory fire, in which both militants were killed.

"Both militants were killed and bodies and arms were recovered from the debris of the house. We are identifying the bodies," said a police official.

An Army official said operations are still continuing in the area.

"In a joint operation at Sopore JKP identified & eliminated 2 Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists who authored grenade throw at policemen yesterday," Jammu and Kashmir police chief Shesh Paul Vaid tweeted.

"The grenade thrower led the police party to the terrorists. Both the terrorists were eliminated within hours of the incident. #JaiHind," an ensuing tweet from the J&K DGP read.

Meanwhile, authorities have suspended telephone services in the area to maintain law and order.
