Srinagar, Jun 23 (UNI): Two militants were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Sunday.

Meanwhile, mobile internet in the Shopian has been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.

The official sources said that despite rain troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint CASO in village Daramdora, Keegam in Shopian early this morning.

However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons.

Security forces immediately retaliated and in the exchange of fire two militants were killed.

Bodies of the militants and their weapons have been recovered while the search operation in the area was still going on when the reports last came in.

People have been advised not to venture in the encounter area until it is declared safe, the source added.

Additional security forces and state police personnel have been deployed in the adjoining areas to prevent any demonstration.
