New Delhi, Jul 3 (IBNS): IT Minister Ravishankar Prasad on Tuesday ordered action plan to control spread of WhatsApp rumours, media reports said.

According to News 18, Prasad held a meeting over fake videos over WhatsApp and asked the officers to curb such acts.

The Government move comes after a series of incidents of lynching across the country following child-lifting rumours spread via WhatsApp.

On Sunday, five people were beaten to death in a Maharashtra village as the locals suspected to victims to be kidnappers. An investigation revealed that the people's ire was fuelled by rumours of child-lifters being out on a prowl.

Similar incidents have taken place in recent times elsewhere in the country, including Assam,Tripura, Gujarat and Chennai.
