Improve work culture and quality of education in govt schools: Yogi tells officials

Officers were reprimanded for the delay in providing textbooks, bags, and uniforms to children. The CM instructed officials to issue these immediately.

“The need of the hour is to improve work culture in education department. This has been brought to my notice that files stays in particular departments for many weeks altogether. This is against the government ethics. If any file stays for more than three days in the department, strict action will be taken against concerned officer,” Yogi said during a review meeting of Basic Education as well as Secondary Education departments here on Monday.

“This government is committed to improving the quality of education. For this we need strict monitoring. The officers should go to the field and do surprise visits of the schools instead of sitting in their air conditioned rooms in the headquarters,” the CM said.

Yogi instructed officials to visit the schools and communicate with the principals, teachers and employees. He also instructed the principals to meet the parents of the students twice a year. All the BSAs were instructed to inspect schools in their areas on a daily basis.

“Monitoring will expose the officers to the problems the education department is facing. This will help them to take decisions judiciously,” he said. “Visit schools and check the quality of midday meal served there. Even the quality of the milk distributed once a week in the schools should be checked.”

Yogi also emphasised on installing solar panels in schools and asked principals to work under ‘Kayakalp’ scheme.

“There should be proper synergy between the central and the state governments. If we can achieve this the benefits will start percolating down up to the village level,” he said.

He said that he was aware of the problem teachers are facing. The officials should ensure that every employee of the education department should get his salary in the first week of every month.

“The BJP government is also working on the line to honour teachers. Therefore, State Teacher’s Award should be set up and its criteria should be fixed. Government is toying with an idea to form a separate Shiksha Seva Aayog, which will lead to transparency in teacher’s recruitment process,” he said adding that for the time being selection to the post of principal should be done under Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission.

The Chief Minister also directed that those Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) who are serving at one place from many years should be transferred.
