I received no call from Akhilesh after mahagathbandhan's defeat: Mayawati

Lucknow, June 24 (IBNS): Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has told her party workers that Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav didi not even call or visit her after their grand alliance suffered massive defeat in the Lok Sabha polls last month.

According to reports, she made the comments at the party’s national executive meeting.

A BSP leader, who was present at the meeting, quoted Mayawati as saying that Yadav had neither visited nor talked to her over phone ever since the Lok Sabha election results were announced, reported Hindustan Times.

“Behenji [Mayawati] told party leaders that Akhilesh had an important say in seat-sharing between the alliance partners and played a pivotal role in the selection of candidates. She said Akhilesh asked her to field minimum Muslim candidates as it might lead to polarisation during election. Terming it a bad advice, she said it proved to be an important factor in the defeat of the alliance,” the leader was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

"After the mahagathbandhan lost the elections, I received no call from Akhilesh. BSP general secretary Satish Mishra asked him to speak to me, but he just wouldn't listen. But because I am senior to him, I called him up instead and expressed sadness over his family members losing," Mayawati told party members at the meeting, as per NDTV report.

The BSP-SP alliance could not create much trouble for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the polls in Uttar Pradesh.

The alliance managed to grab just 15 seats in the state.

The BJP won 64.
